La DC-S1R è una delle due nuove fotocamere mirrorless full frame di Panasonic. Utilizza l'innesto a L originariamente sviluppato da Leica e supporta obiettivi del produttore tedesco insieme a Panasonic e Sigma. L'S1 è dotato di un sensore da 47 MP, riduzione delle vibrazioni nel corpo che funziona in combinazione con obiettivi stabilizzati e sistema AF di rilevamento del contrasto Depth from Defocus di Panasonic. Altre caratteristiche includono un EVF ad altissima risoluzione, LCD a doppia cerniera e due slot per schede di memoria (SD e XQD). L'S1R è in grado di acquisire video 4K/60p. Il suo corpo in lega di magnesio è resistente alle intemperie e ha un otturatore classificato per 400.000 cicli.
